Jakarta News Roundup: Bantargebang Waste Management Reform to Rasuna Said CFD Implementation

The Jakarta Provincial Government needs to completely overhaul the waste management system at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Treatment Site (TPST), as the facility has been identified as one of the largest contributors to methane emissions globally. Hardiyanto Kenneth, a member of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), stated that the city can no longer rely solely on Bantargebang as its primary landfill.

In terms of urban mobility, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has confirmed that the Car Free Day (CFD) initiative at the Jalan HR Rasuna Said area in South Jakarta will officially take effect on 1 June 2026. This implementation follows the completion of necessary supporting infrastructure by the provincial government. The Governor noted that both the Sudirman-Thamrin and Rasuna Said corridors will be active under this scheme by that date.

Furthermore, the Governor has opened possibilities for the expansion of the Jakarta LRT line, suggesting a route that extends to the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) 2 area and connects directly to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. During an event in North Jakarta, the Governor suggested discussing this development with the CEO of Agung Sedayu to facilitate the extension from Velodrome to PIK 2.

In other news, the Jakarta Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture Office (KPKP) is intensifying educational efforts regarding hygienic practices for slaughtering and handling sacrificial animals ahead of Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah. The agency is focusing on training both business operators and the public to ensure health standards are maintained during the religious period.
