Ahead of Jakarta’s 499th anniversary and preparations for the historic five-century milestone in 2027, DPD RI Senator for the DKI Jakarta electoral district, Fahira Idris, has reminded that the success of the city’s development must be measured by the equitable fulfilment of citizens’ basic needs. This is crucial so that Jakarta is not only economically superior but also liveable as a global city.

Fahira appreciated Jakarta’s progress in transportation, digitalisation, and the economy. However, she stressed that fundamental challenges must remain the top priority for the regional government.

“Heading towards its five-century age, Jakarta is not only required to become a globally advanced and competitive city, but also a comfortable, healthy, inclusive, and liveable city for all its citizens,” said Fahira Idris in Jakarta on Saturday (20/6).

Fahira detailed five basic needs that pose major challenges for Jakarta’s future. She believes that by focusing on these five points, Jakarta has a great opportunity to transform into a just and humane city as it enters its 500th year. “That is where the true measure of Jakarta’s future development success lies,” she concluded.
