Jakarta Narcotics Prison Conducts Joint Raid and Urine Tests to Eradicate Drugs
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Class IIA Narcotics Prison in Jakarta held a joint raid with law enforcement agencies and conducted urine tests for both staff and inmates as an effort to eradicate drug circulation. “Continuing to strengthen its commitment to eradicating drug circulation, the illegal use of mobile phones, and fraudulent practices within the correctional environment through joint raid activities and urine tests for staff and inmates,” said Head of the Jakarta Narcotics Prison Syarpani at the Green Field of the Jakarta Narcotics Prison on Friday. The raid involved a combined team from the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police Resort, Brimob, Koramil, Kodim, and the East Jakarta City National Narcotics Agency (BNNK). The implementation of this activity is a follow-up to the directives of the Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services Agus Andrianto and the Director General of Corrections Mashudi. This step is also part of the implementation of the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services’ action programme to realise a correctional environment free from drugs, illegal mobile phones, and fraudulent practices. Syarpani highlighted the importance of integrity and commitment from all ranks in maintaining security and order within the prison. He stated there is no room for tolerance regarding violations related to drugs or other illegal practices in the correctional environment. “There is no tolerance for drugs, illegal mobile phones, or fraudulent practices. All staff must be at the forefront in upholding the honour of corrections,” said Syarpani. After the pledge, the joint team immediately conducted a surprise inspection (sidak) and raid on several inmate housing blocks. The examination was carried out thoroughly to ensure there were no prohibited items in the prison. In addition to the raid, the joint team also carried out urine tests on employees and inmates. This step was taken as a form of early detection as well as to ensure that the environment of the Jakarta Narcotics Prison remains free from drug abuse. This activity also serves as a form of strengthening synergy between the Jakarta Narcotics Prison and law enforcement agencies in maintaining stability in security and order within the correctional environment. Through these routine joint raids and urine tests, the Jakarta Narcotics Prison hopes to create a correctional system that is increasingly professional, clean, and of integrity, in line with the spirit of realising corrections that are Professional, Responsive, Integrity, Modern, and Accountable (PRIMA).
