Jakarta musicians to perform in Bali

JAKARTA: Several of the most famous musicians and singers from
Jakarta will fly to Bali to participate in a special all-night,
televised New Year's Eve extravaganza.

The performance will run throughout the night from the evening
of Dec. 31 until sunrise on Jan. 1, 2002, and will be broadcast
live on local television.

Krisdayanti, Chrisye and Ruth Sahanaya are among the 15
entertainers who will perform on stage for locals as well as
international tourists at the Kampung Bali area inside the Garuda
Wisnu Kencana (GWK) compound in Jimbaran, GWK president director
Putu Agus told Antara.

A 70-meter high GWK statue was built in Jimbaran which is 286
meters above sea level and has become a new tourist destination
on the popular resort island.

Agus said that 400 people would be involved in the
performance, which will feature a background of a traditional
Balinese village. --JP
