Jakarta MRT Passengers Surge to 135,000 During 2026 Eid Holidays, Dramatic Increase!
The implementation of the special Rp1 fare has proven to be a major draw for Jakarta residents to switch to public transportation during the 2026 Eid holiday period. PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) recorded a significant surge with a total of 135,117 customers utilising the underground train service in the first two days of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. Corporate Secretary Division Head of PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda), Rendy Primartantyo, revealed that this year’s passenger numbers far exceed the achievements from the same period in 2025. For comparison, on the first day of Eid, Saturday (21/3), the number of users reached 51,189 people. This figure nearly doubled compared to last year, which only recorded 28,930 customers. The surge was even sharper on the second day of Eid, Sunday (22/3), where 83,928 people used the MRT Jakarta service. Cumulatively, there was an increase of 59,011 passengers compared to the total for the two days of Eid the previous year. “This number is higher than the same period during Eid 2025, which reached 76,106 customers,” Rendy stated in his official remarks in Jakarta on Wednesday (25/3). Rendy assessed that the high passenger numbers were driven by the implementation of the special Rp1 fare and the increasing public awareness in using the public transport network for tourism or social visits in Jakarta. To support passenger comfort, MRT Jakarta continues to operate optimal services with a weekend operational pattern, from 05:00 to 24:00 WIB, with a headway or departure interval of every 10 minutes. “This increase shows extraordinary public enthusiasm. We continue to encourage the acceleration of network development and intermodal connectivity to make public accessibility even easier,” he added. In addition to travel time advantages, MRT Jakarta also integrates feeder services and offers various lifestyle promotions through the MyMRTJ application to ensure a safe, comfortable, and memorable travel experience for residents on the day of victory. Regarding budget support, a politician who also serves as Chair of Commission D supports all studies and plans that have a positive impact on the wider community. The cooperation scheme with developers along the route will facilitate MRT development, particularly in managing TOD and project financing. PT MRT Jakarta is developing its digital service ecosystem through the integration of embedded banking services in the company’s digital channels, including the MyMRTJ application. Tuhiyat also explained the general overview of Harmoni Station, which will become one of the important stations on the northern MRT Jakarta line. In the future, Harmoni Station will have a length of 252 metres. PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) extended operational hours until 02:00 WIB on New Year’s Eve 2026.
