Jakarta MRT Bundaran HI and Thamrin Stations Now Connected
JAKARTA - The Jakarta MRT Phase 1 and Phase 2A tracks have been officially connected after the completion of track bed pouring, or the base layer of the rails, in the northbound tunnel from Bundaran HI Station to Thamrin Station.
Director of Construction at PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda), Weni Maulina, stated that the next work involves pouring the track bed for the southbound tunnel on the Bundaran HI-Thamrin route.
Weni added that after the connection of the Bundaran HI-Thamrin rails, work will continue on the Thamrin-Monas route for both directions.
The track bed pouring in all those tunnels is targeted to be completed by the end of 2026. Meanwhile, the completion of all civil works is targeted to be finished by the end of 2027.
Thus, the integrating, commissioning, and testing (ICT) phase can soon be carried out before the Bundaran HI-Monas segment begins operations.
PT MRT Jakarta targets the first Bundaran HI-Monas segment to be completed and operational by the end of 2027, while the subsequent segment to Kota is targeted to be finished in 2029.
Jakarta MRT Phase 2A will connect Bundaran HI to Kota over approximately 5.8 kilometres with seven underground stations: Thamrin, Monas, Harmoni, Sawah Besar, Mangga Besar, Glodok, and Kota.
This project is also being developed with a transit-oriented development (TOD) concept, which integrates transportation functions with public spaces and community activities around the stations.
The rails used in Phase 2A are produced by Nippon Steel of Japan, with a direct fixation track structure using prestressed concrete (PC Sleeper) sleepers. This system has a durability of up to 50 years and requires relatively low maintenance.
Additionally, synthetic sleepers (Synthetic Sleeper Material) are used, particularly in switch and crossing areas. This material is made from glass fibres and polyurethane foam processed under high pressure, providing resistance to water and chemicals, as well as good electrical insulation.
In terms of construction progress, several work packages show significant achievements. Contract Package CP201 has reached 92.3 per cent, CP202 at 64.13 per cent, and CP203 at 83.72 per cent.
Meanwhile, Package CP205, which covers the railway system, has reached 42.69 per cent and has begun track bed pouring. As of 25 March 2026, the pouring for the Bundaran HI-Monas segment has reached 769 metres.
