Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) have deployed hundreds of personnel to secure the 2026 Lunar New Year celebrations across Jakarta and its surrounding areas.

Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, said that security measures were focused on Buddhist temples, Chinese temples and other locations serving as centres for Lunar New Year festivities.

“Security operations are being conducted both overtly and covertly at places of worship and celebration venues. We have also increased patrols in vulnerable areas, public gathering points, and routes leading to Buddhist and Chinese temples,” Budi told reporters on Monday (15/2).

In addition to stationing personnel at strategic points, Polda Metro Jaya carried out sterilisation procedures at places of worship and traffic management operations.

“Polda Metro Jaya held a personnel readiness muster, conducted sterilisation of locations prior to worship services, implemented traffic management measures, and strengthened coordination with administrators of places of worship and relevant agencies,” he said.

Budi explained that security for the Lunar New Year celebrations was primarily handled by personnel from the district and sub-district police (Polres and Polsek). However, Polda Metro Jaya also deployed hundreds of additional personnel to assist with security operations.

“Polda Metro Jaya deployed 155 personnel, comprising one company of 75 officers from the Directorate of Public Order (Dit Samapta) and one company of 80 officers from the Mobile Brigade Corps (Satbrimob), to support security operations conducted by the district and sub-district police units,” he said.
