Jakarta Metropolitan Police Deploy 1,919 Joint Personnel to Secure Lunar New Year Celebrations
Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) have deployed 1,919 joint personnel to secure the 2026 Lunar New Year celebrations. The security operation has been mounted to ensure that all worship services and celebrations by the Chinese-Indonesian community proceed safely, in an orderly fashion, and without disruption.
Head of Public Relations for Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that security measures are being carried out both overtly and covertly, prioritising a humanistic approach and public service.
“Security for the 2026 Lunar New Year celebrations is being conducted in an integrated manner together with the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) and local government authorities. We are ensuring that all 165 temples holding worship services receive maximum security so that the public can worship safely and comfortably,” Budi told journalists on Monday (16 February 2026).
The personnel contingent comprises 155 officers from Jakarta Metropolitan Police, 1,106 officers from subordinate district police commands, 225 TNI personnel, 217 civil service police unit (Satpol PP) members, 123 transport agency personnel, 53 health service personnel, and 40 fire service personnel.
All elements are working in synergy through an integrated security pattern across worship venues, shopping centres, tourist areas, and other crowd gathering points. Security is specifically focused on 165 temples spread across the Jakarta Metropolitan Police jurisdiction.
Personnel have been stationed to carry out guard duties, traffic management, venue sterilisation prior to worship services, and patrols around the surrounding areas to ensure activities proceed safely and solemnly.
In addition to guard duties and area patrols, Jakarta Metropolitan Police have also prepared situational traffic management measures around celebration venues to anticipate vehicle congestion during worship hours and peak visitor periods.
Jakarta Metropolitan Police have urged the entire public to work together in maintaining a conducive security and public order situation and to comply with directions from officers on the ground. Those requiring police assistance may contact the 110 emergency service line, which is operational around the clock.
