Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta branch of the Indonesian Society of Respiratory Medicine (PDPI) has stated it is ready to cooperate and support lung and respiratory health programmes in Jakarta, particularly in South Jakarta.

“Its members, namely lung specialists (as city residents) in each district (in South Jakarta), are ready to coordinate with local community health centres (Puskesmas),” said Professor Tjandra Yoga Aditama, Advisor to the PDPI Jakarta Branch, in Jakarta on Friday.

He mentioned several forms of support that could be provided, including counselling, education, and lung health examinations.

Areas of activity that could be covered include tuberculosis (TB) control, which is a priority of the central government and the Jakarta Provincial Government, including in South Jakarta, carbon monoxide level checks for employees, and the application of the PUMA questionnaire (Predictive Model for COPD in Primary Care) to detect the risk of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

According to him, continuous education is needed until the public understands tuberculosis, including how it is transmitted, its symptoms, when to seek examination, and treatment until fully recovered — and most importantly, that there should be no stigma attached to TB.

Meanwhile, according to data from the Jakarta Provincial Health Office as of 8 December 2025, TB case findings in Jakarta reached 54,305 cases (77 per cent of the target), comprising 53,343 drug-susceptible TB (DS-TB) cases and 962 drug-resistant TB (DR-TB) cases.

This figure represents a decline in case findings compared with the same period in 2024, which reached 66,072 cases.

Most of these cases were discovered passively or through healthcare facilities, including hospitals and community health centres.

Furthermore, of the cases found throughout 2025, 49,017 TB patients (90 per cent) have undergone treatment, comprising 48,523 DS-TB patients and the remainder DR-TB patients.
