Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Jakarta Propertindo (Perseroda) (Jakpro) has begun a series of testing and commissioning (T&C) trials on the Jakarta LRT Phase 1B railway system along the Velodrome-Manggarai route, spanning 3.6 kilometres in Jakarta, on Thursday.

“This T&C phase is being conducted in detail to ensure that all technical aspects of Jakarta LRT Phase 1B are fully ready and safe for eventual use by the public in their daily mobility,” said Jakpro Director Iwan Takwin in Jakarta on Thursday.

According to him, the T&C phase is carried out meticulously to ensure the entire system is fully prepared for public use.

Iwan explained that Testing and Commissioning is an indispensable phase in the development of modern railway systems.

This process encompasses a series of systematic and structured tests on all components and subsystems before commercial operations begin, from tracks, signalling, electrical systems, communications, to operational integration.

“Every metre of the elevated LRT Jakarta Phase 1B track is our responsibility to the people of DKI Jakarta who will rely on the LRT daily. This T&C phase must be prepared very thoroughly,” said Iwan.

According to him, behind every technical process underway, there is a strong commitment from Jakpro to complete the construction of Jakarta LRT Phase 1B as quickly as possible without compromising any aspect of safety, quality, and service reliability.

Once operational commercially, the addition of the Jakarta LRT Phase 1B route is projected to carry tens of thousands of passengers every day and contribute directly to reducing traffic density.

According to Iwan, the presence of this new corridor will also strengthen inter-regional connectivity and public transport integration in Jakarta.

He stated that this aligns with the directives of Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, who wants the development of Jakarta LRT Phase 1B to support fulfilling the indicators of Jakarta as a modern, advanced, sustainable, and livable global city.

This project, said Iwan, is an important part in presenting a more connected urban space, easier mobility, and better urban environmental quality.

Jakarta LRT Phase 1B, according to him, is not just an infrastructure project, and its presence is a manifestation of the collective determination of the community and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to realise a more advanced and competitive city.

“Jakpro is committed to ensuring that all technical, safety, and operational aspects of the Jakarta LRT system meet the highest standards before entering the commercial service phase,” he said.

One Jakarta resident, Wenny, said she passes through the Velodrome-Manggarai construction corridor every day.

She assessed that the presence of Jakarta LRT Phase 1B is highly anticipated as it will add comfortable and modern public transport options.

“I am optimistic that this route can help people travel more efficiently while encouraging the shift from private vehicles to public transport,” she said.

She also believes that the presence of this new route will further strengthen Jakarta’s integrated public transport system. With a more connected transport network, people will certainly find it easier to switch modes.

“This is a positive step for Jakarta to deliver better mobility in the future,” she said.

According to her, the development of public transport like Jakarta LRT will also have positive impacts on urban environmental quality.

“Electric-based public transport like Jakarta LRT is a good solution to support cleaner city air and a healthier environment for the community,” she said.
