JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, has decided that the Light Rail Transit (LRT) project in Jakarta will be extended from Manggarai to Dukuh Atas. The decision was taken after considering input from various parties and the fiscal capacity of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. ‘Yesterday I decided in the meeting after receiving input, suggestions, considerations, and also the fiscal capacity of the DKI Jakarta Government, for LRT the decision is extension from Manggarai to Dukuh Atas to complete one line from Velodrome to Dukuh Atas,’ Pramono said at the City Hall in Jakarta, on Wednesday (20 May 2026). However, in a meeting held at City Hall on Wednesday (20 May 2026), the Provincial Government ultimately chose to finish the Velodrome-Dukuh Atas segment first. With the extension, the length of Jakarta’s LRT track will be around 14.2 kilometres. In addition, the number of stations will increase to 12. ‘There is also an increase in investment or budget by around Rp 2.7 trillion,’ Pramono said. He explained that the Manggarai-Dukuh Atas route was chosen so that the LRT line could be connected in a complete fashion rather than half-heartedly. Currently, the finished route only reaches the Ancol area. Pramono also asked the new Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Budi Awaluddin, to immediately complete the feasibility studies for the further route from Ancol towards PIK 2 up to Soekarno-Hatta Airport. ‘If that can be done, all loops as well as the north-south and central segments that will later be linked to the MRT from Balaraja-Cikarang, that will make Jakarta’s connectivity even better,’ Pramono said.
