Jakarta LPDP Scholarship to Send 50-75 Residents for Higher Education Starting Next Year
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has confirmed that the Jakarta LPDP scholarship programme will begin next year. The programme aims to support approximately 50 to 75 Jakarta residents, with priority given to individuals from low-income families who demonstrate strong academic capabilities.
“One of the regulations pertains to the Jakarta LPDP. It will commence next year, with a target of approximately 50 to 75 people, and will be conducted professionally,” Pramono stated in Central Jakarta on Thursday.
To ensure a transparent selection process, the Jakarta Provincial Government will collaborate with the central LPDP agency to determine the scholarship recipients. This measure is intended to prevent the programme from becoming a vehicle for nepotism or undue influence.
“To ensure this does not become a place where people compete to secure placements through connections, we are working with the central LPDP for the selection process,” he explained.
He emphasised that priority will be given to Jakarta residents from underprivileged families who possess excellent academic potential, as stipulated in the regional regulation.
The Jakarta Provincial Government is preparing this scholarship programme for residents to pursue Master’s (S-2) and Doctoral (S-3) degrees at the world’s leading universities. The programme is outlined in Regional Regulation (Pergub) Number 20 of 2026 concerning Educational Quality Improvement Assistance.
Registration is planned to open in September 2027, with an allocated budget of approximately Rp100 billion. The selection process will be conducted alongside the central LPDP. The Jakarta Provincial Government will determine the recipients, fields of study, and target universities based on the human resource requirements for Jakarta as a global city.
Graduates of the Jakarta Student Excellence Card (KJMU) programme are also eligible to apply for this programme to pursue postgraduate studies. According to Pergub 20/2026, recipients of the Jakarta Excellence Scholarship will receive coverage for tuition fees and personal expenses, including living allowances, book allowances, health insurance, arrival costs, and visas.
The government will also cover costs for thesis or dissertation research, international conferences, and journal publications. Funding will be provided for a maximum of two years for Master’s degrees and five years for Doctoral degrees. Upon completing their studies, recipients are required to contribute to Jakarta’s development for a period of at least twice the duration of their study period.
