The Jakarta Provincial Government has alerted residents to the potential for rainfall in Jakarta during Eid al-Fitr, based on forecasts from the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

“Therefore, during Eid al-Fitr and Nyepi, there will be rainfall,” said Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung in North Jakarta, according to Antara news agency on Sunday (15 March 2026).

Pramono stated that according to BMKG data, moderate rainfall is likely to occur during the celebrations.

Previously, the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) provided updated weather information for the early exodus period ahead of the Lebaran holiday.

Overall, atmospheric conditions in most parts of Indonesia remain relatively favourable. However, the public should remain vigilant regarding the potential for rainfall that may be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in several areas.

BMKG Chief Teuku Faisal Fathani advised the public to remain calm yet cautious in response to weather developments during the exodus period.

“Continue to monitor the latest weather information for land, sea and air to adjust your travel plans through various official BMKG channels,” said Faisal.

Acting Deputy for Meteorology Andri Ramdhani explained that activity from the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) is currently still active in the southern and eastern regions of Indonesia.

These conditions, combined with activity from the Equatorial Rossby Waves and Kelvin Waves around the Indonesian region during 13-20 March 2026, will further strengthen atmospheric dynamics supporting the development of rain clouds in several areas.

This situation is also influenced by relatively high humidity levels and unstable atmospheric conditions.

Furthermore, Andri stated that moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast to occur during 14-17 March across parts of Sumatra and portions of central and eastern Java.
