Jakarta Legislator Reminds Newcomers to Prepare Skills
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Nabilah Aboebakar Alhabsyi, a member of Commission D of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, has reminded migrants seeking their fortune in the capital to prepare skills, secure jobs, and adequate economic capabilities so as not to add new problems. “Migrants must come with a clear plan, not just hoping for luck,” said Nabilah in Jakarta on Wednesday. According to her, the flow of new migrants after Eid returning to the capital underscores that Jakarta remains the primary destination for people from regions seeking jobs and a better life. However, behind this appeal, said Nabilah, the pressure on the city’s capacity is increasingly mounting. Therefore, this phenomenon needs to be addressed with a firm yet still humane approach. She also reminded migrants not to come without readiness in skills, secure employment, and adequate economic capability. “Jakarta is still the favourite, but we must be realistic because living in this city is not easy,” she stated. She also asked the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to strengthen data collection and administrative oversight of the population, while providing education to prospective migrants about the real conditions of the job market and cost of living in the capital. According to Nabilah, urbanisation without preparation will only add new problems, from increasing unemployment to more uninhabitable settlements. “This city is open to anyone, but let’s together keep this city orderly and livable for all its residents,” she said.
