Jakarta Legislator Inspects Drainage Project, Pledges Support for Disabled Child

Jakarta DPRD member Hardiyanto Kenneth conducted a direct inspection of drainage construction on Jalan Asia Baru Kepa Listrik, RT 06 RW 04, Duri Kepa Urban Village, Kebon Jeruk District, West Jakarta. The activity was a follow-up to residents’ aspirations conveyed during the First Recess of the First Session of the 2025-2026 Sitting Year.

The PDI Perjuangan politician, familiarly known as Bang Kent, said the drainage construction is expected to reduce flooding while improving the quality of the residential environment. ‘For me, every public aspiration is a mandate that must be fought for until its benefits are truly felt. That is why I want to ensure the construction proceeds according to residents’ expectations,’ Kent said in a statement on Saturday.

During the inspection, Kent was approached by a resident named Handoyo, who shared his family’s situation. His wife is ill, while their child is a person with a disability who requires assistive devices and support to carry out daily activities. Upon hearing this, the Jakarta DPRD Commission C member immediately visited the resident’s home and committed to helping the family through channels in accordance with government regulations.

‘I am pleased with this, because we can directly understand residents’ needs. We will facilitate the processing of a disability card, help procure a walking stick for practice and sunbathing, and look into other needs that we can indeed fight for,’ Kent said. He stressed that a representative’s duty does not stop at overseeing physical development but also includes being present when the community needs assistance.

‘If there are residents in difficulty, especially children with disabilities, the government must be present. They must not feel alone. We must ensure their rights are fulfilled and they receive proper services,’ said the Head of IKAL PPRA Batch LXII. Kent affirmed that children with disabilities have equal rights to grow, learn, and achieve their dreams. He called on all elements of society to work together to build a more inclusive Jakarta.

‘A developed city is not just about tall buildings or grand infrastructure. A truly developed city is one that can protect and provide equal opportunities to all its citizens, including our brothers and sisters with disabilities,’ he added. He hopes the assistance will ease the family’s burden and serve as a reminder that every citizen deserves attention and service without discrimination.
