Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of Commission E of the Jakarta DPRD, Yudha Permana, has requested that the Jakarta Provincial Government prepare mitigation measures and strengthen education regarding hantavirus.

According to Yudha, public concern has increased following the circulation of various information about hantavirus on social media. Therefore, he believes that education is needed to prevent panic among the public.

“The public is now very worried after seeing information on social media. The government must be present to provide clear education on what is and is not allowed,” said Yudha in Jakarta, Friday.

He also encouraged the Jakarta Provincial Government to strengthen the preparedness of health facilities and the handling system in case of a wider spread of hantavirus cases.

“The hope is, of course, that it will not spread widely. But the government must still be prepared to anticipate the worst-case scenario,” he said.

Yudha believes that the potential for the spread of hantavirus should not be taken lightly. Therefore, the government is asked to immediately prepare serious anticipation measures.

According to him, the experience of the COVID-19 pandemic should be an important lesson for the government to be more responsive in facing new infectious disease threats.

For this reason, he asked the Jakarta Provincial Government together with the central government to immediately conduct an in-depth study regarding the potential spread of the virus.

“There must be a special study from the Jakarta Provincial Government together with the Central Government. The point is, we must be prepared before it rains, learning from the COVID-19 experience,” said Yudha.
