Jakarta Legislator Calls for Comprehensive Evaluation Following Train Accident
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Hardiyanto Kenneth, a member of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, stated that a comprehensive evaluation must be conducted on the operational systems, track arrangements, and safety standards, particularly at high-risk points where train tracks intersect.
“It is not enough to rely solely on post-incident handling. There must be a thorough evaluation from upstream to downstream, including the train journey control system and track supervision,” Kenneth said in Jakarta on Wednesday, responding to the accident involving the Argo Bromo train and the KRL Commuter Line in the Bekasi Timur Station area.
Kenneth assessed that the incident not only leaves wounds for the victims’ families but also becomes a sorrow for all Indonesian society, especially train service users.
Kenneth stressed the importance of a transparent and comprehensive investigation to uncover the main cause of the accident, so that preventive measures can be immediately implemented.
“The safety of train service users must be the top priority. This includes updating signalling technology, improving infrastructure quality, and strengthening operational supervision systems,” he said.
He emphasised the importance of a transparent investigation process so that the public can gain clarity on the incident.
Kenneth also highlighted the importance of ongoing training for personnel and the implementation of automatic technology to prevent future accidents.
In addition, he requested that safety standard operating procedures (SOP) be enforced without compromise.
“Every potential negligence must be anticipated with a strong system and high discipline from all parties,” he said.
Kenneth expressed his deep appreciation for the quick work of the SAR team, medical personnel, and all parties involved in the evacuation and handling of the victims.
Looking ahead, Kenneth hopes for increased coordination between the central government, local government, and train operators to ensure passenger safety.
Kenneth also extended his condolences for the disaster that claimed 16 lives and prayed for the injured victims who are being treated to recover quickly and return to their normal activities.
