Jakarta Investment Reaches Rp173.6 Trillion, Rosan Reveals Key Magnet Sectors
Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan P. Roeslani has emphasised Jakarta’s important role as a key centre of growth and investment contributing significantly to the Indonesian economy. According to Minister Rosan, global investment is increasingly moving towards strategic sectors that will shape the future economy, ranging from digital infrastructure, Artificial Intelligence (AI), clean energy, advanced manufacturing, to critical minerals. He made the remarks while delivering a keynote address at the Jakarta Investment Festival (JIF) Summit 2026 in Jakarta on Friday (28/8).
“The next stage of downstreaming is not only concerned with minerals and their processing, but extends to digital infrastructure, technology, innovation, and industries that will determine future global growth. Jakarta has a very important role in this journey,” said Minister Rosan, as quoted on Saturday (29/8/2026).
Throughout the first half of 2026, investment realisation in Jakarta reached Rp173.6 trillion, or 17.2% of total national investment realisation. Jakarta also contributed 16.3% to national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the second quarter of 2026, reinforcing its role as one of the main engines of the Indonesian economy. Investment realisation in Jakarta was supported by several key sectors, namely the transport, warehousing and telecommunications sector with investment realisation of Rp54.4 trillion, or 31.3% of the total; other services (including web hosting, data centres, web portals, hospitals, etc.) with Rp43.6 trillion (25.1%); trade and repair with Rp28.4 trillion (16.4%); housing and offices with Rp14.0 trillion (8.1%); and construction with Rp12.9 trillion (7.4%).
Jakarta’s position is becoming increasingly strategic in line with the development of Indonesia’s digital economy, which is projected to reach USD 360 billion by 2030. As one of the centres of data centre development in Indonesia, the strengthening of digital infrastructure and AI-based next-generation capabilities is expected to further enhance Jakarta’s investment appeal.
In addition, Minister Rosan also revealed that Jakarta is being prepared as the starting point for an international financial centre in Indonesia. This role will strengthen legal certainty and the application of international-standard business practices.
Minister Rosan said that investment decisions are no longer determined solely by traditional factors such as the size of the domestic market and low production costs, but also by stability, business certainty, strong partnerships, infrastructure reliability, and clarity of long-term vision. This is in line with the theme of the sixth JIF Summit 2026, “Advancing Today, Securing Tomorrow”, which emphasises the importance of economic stability, long-term impactful investment, and strategic collaboration in supporting sustainable urban development.
The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM continues to be committed to strengthening the quality of the investment climate through simplification and acceleration of licensing services, increased legal and regulatory certainty, and more predictable business processes. This commitment is also realised through facilitation and resolution of various obstacles (debottlenecking) faced by investment projects, including those located in Jakarta. These efforts are carried out through coordination with regional governments, relevant ministries/agencies, and other stakeholders so that investment commitments can be realised promptly and provide economic benefits.
“We know that Jakarta contributes very significantly to total investment realisation in Indonesia, and if we look at it, Jakarta almost always ranks in the top five, and this semester it is even ranked first. Of course, the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM always collaborates with the Jakarta Government to ensure that projects in Jakarta are facilitated and their implementation can run properly and correctly, so as to provide benefits not only to Jakarta but to the Indonesian economy. In essence, we thank and appreciate the Governor and his staff who have been very active in communicating, discussing, and providing input so that we can all always synergise to provide benefits to the entire community,” concluded Minister Rosan.
