Jakarta Introduces Vehicle Tax Amnesty Effective Today

Vehicle owners in Jakarta with outstanding tax payments can take advantage of the vehicle tax penalty waiver program, which officially takes effect today, Monday, 1 June 2026. Under the policy running until 31 August 2026, taxpayers only need to pay the principal Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB) and Vehicle Transfer Duty (BBNKB), without incurring interest penalties for late payment. The Jakarta Provincial Government introduced the programme as part of the city’s 499th anniversary celebrations. ‘With this policy, vehicle owners with outstanding payments can settle their obligations without paying late payment penalties,’ said Lusiana Herawati, Head of Jakarta’s Tax and Revenue Agency (Bapenda), in a statement on Saturday, 30 May 2026. The waiver covers interest accrued due to delayed payment or submission of PKB and BBNKB. Residents also do not need to manually apply for penalty removal, as the entire process is automated through the integrated regional tax system. The Jakarta Provincial Government hopes residents will utilise this opportunity to clear remaining vehicle tax arrears. Beyond improving tax compliance, the programme is part of the government’s efforts to provide more convenient and accessible tax services.
