Jakarta Intensifies Education on Hygienic Handling of Sacrificial Animals
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Food Security, Maritime Affairs and Agriculture Office (KPKP) of Jakarta is intensifying education for the public and businesses regarding hygienic slaughtering and handling of sacrificial animals in anticipation of Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah.
“In preparation for Eid al-Adha, the KPKP not only tightens supervision of the health of sacrificial animals but also intensifies training and socialisation for businesses and the public,” said Head of the Jakarta KPKP, Hasudungan A. Sidabalok when confirmed in Jakarta on Sunday.
According to Hasudungan, various preparatory steps have been taken to ensure that the Eid al-Adha celebrations in Jakarta run safely, healthily, and in accordance with Islamic teachings.
One of the main focuses is providing training and socialisation for businesses involved in sacrificial animals, managers of slaughterhouses, and the general public.
The material provided includes competency training for halal butchers, procedures for bringing in sacrificial animals, how to select healthy sacrificial animals, to requirements for places of sale and locations for slaughtering animals.
This education is important so that the process of slaughtering sacrificial animals not only meets religious requirements but also meets health and food hygiene standards.
“These steps are taken to ensure that the quality of the meat remains maintained until it is distributed to residents who will benefit,” said Hasudungan.
According to him, proper handling of meat has a significant impact on the safety of public consumption. Therefore, the public is asked to pay attention to the cleanliness of tools, slaughter locations, and the process of storing and distributing meat.
On the other hand, the KPKP also ensures that supervision of the health of sacrificial animals continues to be carried out strictly. During the implementation of the slaughter, officers will carry out ante-mortem and post-mortem examinations at the location of the slaughter of sacrificial animals.
Ante-mortem examinations are carried out before the animal is slaughtered to ensure its health condition. Meanwhile, post-mortem examinations are carried out after slaughter to ensure that the meat is safe for public consumption.
In order to support the smooth supervision, the Jakarta KPKP also coordinates with various stakeholders and regions supplying sacrificial animals from several areas in Indonesia.
The health examination of sacrificial animals has been carried out at locations where sacrificial animals are kept and sold throughout the five regions of DKI Jakarta from 27 April to 26 May 2026 to ensure that animals entering Jakarta are healthy and meet the requirements as sacrificial animals.
