The Chairperson of the Jakarta Provincial Information Commission, Harry Ara Hutabarat, has expressed hope that the new leadership of the Jakarta DPRD will drive the acceleration of the discussion and ratification of the Draft Regional Regulation on Public Information Disclosure (Ranperda KIP).

“We hope his leadership (Suhud Alynudin) can bring new hope, particularly in strengthening public information disclosure in Jakarta,” said Harry following a plenary session of the Jakarta DPRD on Monday. On Monday, the leadership of the Jakarta DPRD officially transitioned from Khoirudin to Suhud Alynudin.

Harry explained that the existence of the KIP Regional Regulation is a vital necessity for Jakarta, given its status as a special region and the centre of national governmental and economic activities. The regulation is viewed as a strategic instrument to strengthen open, transparent, and accountable governance.

“We hope his leadership can commit to pushing the KIP Draft Regulation into the regional legislative programme (prolegda) through to its ratification, so that Jakarta possesses the KIP Regulation that has long been a shared necessity,” Harry stated. He noted that the regulation would provide legal certainty for public bodies in fulfilling their obligations regarding information disclosure to the community.

Furthermore, the regulation is believed to enhance the quality of public information services while strengthening community participation in monitoring government operations. “The KIP Regulation will strengthen the quality of accountability and transparency in Jakarta’s governance. At the same time, the public will benefit from easier, faster, and higher-quality access to information, thereby increasing public participation in overseeing the government,” he added.

Harry further emphasised that information transparency is a fundamental pillar in achieving clean and trusted governance. Therefore, the support of the DPRD as a legislative body plays a strategic role in introducing regulations capable of strengthening a culture of transparency within public institutions. He also expressed hope for continued synergy between the Jakarta DPRD, the Jakarta Provincial Government, and all stakeholders to ensure the smooth discussion and swift ratification of the KIP Draft Regulation.
