JAKARTA: Indonesian tin producer PT Timah on Thursday said it
swung to a net profit ofRp 63.9 billion (US$1= Rp8,480) for the
first nine months of this year from a loss of Rp 38.7 billion a
year earlier due to higher tin prices.
Timah's president Thobrani Alwi said tin prices rose to around
$4,752 a metric ton during the period from around $4,206 a year
earlier.
He said the higher tin prices pushed Timah's sales up by 26
percent to Rp1.345 trillion from Rp1.066 trillion.
He gave no further details.
Timah, which is the world's largest tin producer, holds
exploration and mining rights until 2025 for more than 7,700
square kilometers spread across several islands and offshore

Indosat net profit raises 30%

JAKARTA: PT Indonesia Satellite Corp. said its net profit for
the first nine months of this year rose 30 percent to Rp 566.6
billion, from Rp 435.5 billion a year earlier, thanks to the
higher revenue contribution from its cellular services.
Total operating revenue rose 27 percent to Rp 6.035 trillion
from Rp 4.759 trillion during the same period last year.
The nation's second largest telecommunications company said
its cellular business contributed 60 percent to total operating
revenues, while its international call services contributed 23.6
percent, internet services 14.9 percent, and other services 1.1
percent.
The company didn't provide further details, saying it will
release complete financial results next week.
Indosat is in the process of merging its two cellular units -
PT Satelit Palapa Indonesia and PT Indosat Mobile Multi Media, or
IM3 - into the firm, to make it easier to refinance its
consolidated debt worth around $900 million.
The company has issued $300 million in foreign bonds and
Rp 2.5 trillion in local bonds, and Rp 3.165 trillion in
syndicated bank loans in an effort to refinance the consolidated
