Jakarta Hijab Festival Features DKI Officials as Models at Tanah Abang Market
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government held the Jakarta Hijab Festival at Tanah Abang Market in Central Jakarta.
Uniquely, the models for the Hijab Festival were government officials in DKI, ranging from sub-district mayors, Grade 2 and Grade 3 officials, to the board of directors of regional state-owned enterprises (BUMD).
“This Jakarta Hijab Festival event features models who are all capital city officials,” said Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung at Tanah Abang Market, Central Jakarta, on Thursday afternoon (12 March).
Pramono explained that beyond serving as a fashion showcase for the capital’s officials, all clothing displayed was purchased directly from local merchants. This approach was intended to ensure that the local economy actually benefited.
“Everything worn was purchased here at Tanah Abang,” he stated.
Pramono also noted that the choice of location was specifically intended to revitalise economic activity at the wholesale centre.
“Why was this held at Tanah Abang? Simply to stimulate, to encourage SMEs that exist at Tanah Abang and of course in Jakarta,” Pramono said.
Observing the extraordinary enthusiasm of his officials who performed with full dedication, Pramono expressed amazement at their commitment.
“I did not expect the officials in the DKI Jakarta government to prepare themselves so seriously, whether women or men, many wore clothing that surpassed my expectations,” said Pramono.
