Jakarta High School Student Dies After Motorcycle Snags on Dangling Cable
A 16-year-old student from SMAN 6 Jakarta, identified as NAEP, died in a tragic accident on Thursday morning while being driven to school by her father, DJ, on Jalan Leuser, South Jakarta. According to Kebayoran Baru Sub-district Head Rachmat Mulyadi, the motorcycle’s handlebars snagged on a dangling cable that was protruding into the road, causing the vehicle to swerve and fall. The student was then run over by a passing school bus. The father sustained injuries and is receiving hospital treatment.
The South Jakarta Metro Police have secured the school bus and its driver as part of their investigation into the fatal traffic accident. The family has reportedly requested that the legal process proceed in accordance with applicable regulations.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung expressed his deep condolences and confirmed that the city administration has provided full support to the grieving family. The government facilitated transportation for teachers and students to the funeral and covered the burial expenses. Pramono noted that the cable involved was a severed cable belonging to the state electricity company PLN. The Jakarta Provincial Government, through the South Jakarta II Education Sub-department, is also providing ongoing assistance to the affected family.
