Jakarta group ends show in Cairo

JAKARTA (JP): The Joes Roesadi group led by noted singer Elly Kasim concluded on Thursday its Indonesian cultural show in Cairo, Egypt.

The shows held at Egypt's National Art Center on Wednesday and Thursday featured traditional dances and songs, Antara reported from Cairo yesterday.

Eight traditional dances, including the Gatek Balen and Lenggo Jingke dances of Betawi (old Jakarta), a Legong Keraton dance from Bali, the Rantak and Piring dances from West Sumatra, Jaipong dance of West Java, and an Acehnese Rateuh Saman dance.

The songs, sang by Elly Kasim, included an old religious piece called Salawat Nabi, an adoration to Prophet Muhammad.

All the songs were sang to angklung accompaniment.

The group is scheduled to take its tour to Saudi Arabia. (sur)
