Jakarta Governor to Publicly Name Illegal Waste Dumpers as Deterrent

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has instructed the Environment Agency and the Communication, Informatics and Statistics Agency to publicly name individuals who dump waste in locations not designated for waste disposal, as a deterrent effect.

“So that they do not repeat it. We are taking firm action because we have reminded them once, twice,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Thursday.

According to him, the illegal waste dumping practice was carried out by private parties who collect waste from the hotel, restaurant and cafe sectors and then stockpile it.

“That must not happen again. Once it is announced to the public, the hotels, restaurants and cafes that he (the illegal waste dumper) has been managing will certainly not want to use the services of the person concerned again,” he said.

Previously, illegal waste dumping and stockpiling was discovered on Jalan H. Tabah, Dukuh Urban Village, Kramat Jati District, East Jakarta.

The first perpetrator, Agus Setiyo, who was tasked with guarding the land, admitted to receiving waste disposal, including construction debris from other parties using pickup vehicles.

He was subject to an administrative sanction of Rp5 million and had settled his obligation on 4 August 2026.

Then, based on the development of the examination of Agus Setiyo, the Jakarta Environment Agency summoned two other perpetrators, Tri Joko and Habib, who were involved in transporting and dumping waste at the location.

Tri Joko operated a waste transport service, including construction debris, from various locations based on customer orders.

Meanwhile, Habib transported the waste using a pickup vehicle without holding a waste transport permit. The waste was then dumped on land in Kampung Dukuh, Kramat Jati, which is not designated as a waste management site.

“For these violations, Tri Joko and Habib were each subject to an administrative sanction of Rp5 million, which must be paid to the regional treasury in accordance with the provisions,” explained Marulina.
