Jakarta Governor Targets Stunting Rate Reduction to 14 Per Cent

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has set a target to reduce the stunting rate in Jakarta from approximately 17 per cent to 14 per cent over the next two years, aiming to match the national average.

“Regarding stunting, which currently averages around 17 per cent, we aim to reduce it to 14 per cent within the next two years, aligning it with the national stunting rate,” stated Pramono while attending the 2026 Jakarta Provincial Level Posyandu Cadre Jamboree in Central Jakarta on Friday.

He noted that efforts to reduce stunting cannot be undertaken by a single party alone. Posyandu cadres play a vital role due to their direct interaction with the community.

Pramono acknowledged that the issue of stunting involves complex and interconnected factors. Nevertheless, he remains optimistic that the target for reducing stunting in Jakarta can be achieved.

The role of Posyandu is no longer limited solely to maternal and child health services. Posyandu is also expected to become part of a broader effort to maintain public health.

Currently, there are approximately 4,469 Posyandu centres in Jakarta. Of this number, about 3,148 or 70 per cent have implemented the ‘Smart Posyandu’ concept.

He assessed that Posyandu holds a strategic role in ensuring that health services at the community level can operate more optimally.

“If this is to change and is implemented well, then frankly, the handling of Posyandu is not just about maternal and child health; it has now become an institution at the grassroots level through which comprehensive health matters can be managed by Posyandu,” he explained.
