Jakarta Governor Seeks Short-Term Solution for Collapsed Tendean Footbridge

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has asked the Jakarta Transport Office to coordinate with the Ministry of Transport to devise a short-term solution following the incident in which the Tendean Pedestrian Bridge (JPO) was hit by a truck.

Pramono wants the Tendean JPO site to be used as a crossing or zebra crossing as a short-term measure.

“For the Tendean JPO, there will be both short-term and long-term solutions. For the short term, I have already asked the Transport Office to coordinate with the Ministry of Transport, to request permission on whether it can be used as a zebra crossing in the meantime,” Pramono said at City Hall on Thursday.

Pramono believes a short-term solution can be implemented because rebuilding the Tendean JPO would take considerable time.

Therefore, a short-term solution is needed to make it easier for pedestrians in the area.

Nevertheless, Pramono stressed that the Jakarta provincial government is still preparing a long-term solution, namely rebuilding the pedestrian bridge.

Next week, Pramono said his side will discuss the budget scheme to be used for rebuilding the Tendean JPO.

“Whether through the regional budget (APBD), creative financing, CSR and so on, or naming rights. We are working on it now and next week we will meet and decide quickly. Because this cannot be delayed — it is a very, very strategic pedestrian bridge,” Pramono explained.
