Jakarta Governor Pramono Intervenes to Protect Security Guard in Viral Traffic Dispute
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has reviewed CCTV footage multiple times showing a security guard confronting a driver who ran a red light at a pedestrian crossing near the Pullman Hotel in Bundaran HI, Central Jakarta. The Governor has requested that the security guard not be dismissed from his job. “I watched the recording repeatedly. The security guard at the crossing near Pullman to Grand Hyatt was actually carrying out his duties very well,” Pramono told reporters at Jakarta City Hall on Friday (24/7/2026). “First of all, regarding the fate of the security guard, I will ask that he not be fired or dismissed.”
Pramono stated that the CCTV footage clearly showed the Toyota Alphard driver violating traffic regulations. He further revealed that authorities had discovered the vehicle was using counterfeit license plates. “We also received a report that the car was using fake plates,” he added.
The Governor has called on law enforcement officials to impose sanctions on the Alphard driver. He argued that if the case is not handled properly, the driver would feel empowered and unrepentant for the violation. “The person who gave the warning should not be the one sanctioned. I have asked law enforcement to act. If this is not resolved properly, the violator will feel like they are in power and innocent,” Pramono said.
Pramono reiterated his support for the security guard, emphasizing that the guard was simply performing his duty to maintain safety. “I ask that the security guard not be dismissed and continue working as usual. He was carrying out his duties, and everyone saw that. The face of the angry driver is also clearly visible in the more complete CCTV footage owned by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government,” he stated.
The incident, which went viral on social media, began when the security guard reprimanded the driver for running the red light. According to Menteng District Police Chief AKBP Braiel Arnold Rondonuwu, the guard’s warning led to a heated verbal altercation. “The security guard reprimanded the driver by knocking on the car window. The driver did not accept this, and a shouting match ensued,” Braiel explained.
