Jakarta Governor Pramono Calls Collapsed School a 'Slap in the Face', Vows Immediate Repair
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has stated that he only became aware of the collapsed condition of SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09 after a video showing the school’s state went viral on social media. He has pledged to carry out immediate repairs.
“Firstly, I want to address this state primary school in Kebayoran Lama. We will certainly handle it immediately. And frankly, I only found out when this went viral,” Pramono told reporters in Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta, on Tuesday, 21 July 2026.
Pramono said he would give special attention to ensure the school is repaired quickly. “So this state primary school in Kebayoran Lama will be resolved by us immediately.”
On a separate occasion, Pramono reiterated his commitment to repairing SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09. “The essence is that for me, education, health, and social affairs are the most fundamental things that must be improved in Jakarta,” Pramono said when met in the North Jakarta area on the same day.
In his remarks, he admitted the incident was a harsh wake-up call. “What is clear is that for Jakarta, especially for me personally, education that ends up like that truly slaps me in the face.”
He continued, saying that a meeting would be held today to decide when the school repairs would commence. “But we will carry out the repairs immediately. We held a meeting on it yesterday, and we are meeting today to make a decision.”
Regarding the budget to be used, he acknowledged that funds were not yet available in either the APBD or the revised APBD. However, he stressed that construction would proceed regardless. “I have ordered that even though the budget is not yet available in the APBD or the revised APBD, we can use existing funds, one of which is the KLB and so on,” he added.
Pramono further explained that he would visit SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09. A previously circulated video showed a collapsed school building. The iron roof frame could no longer support the tiles, causing it to bend and collapse. Roof tiles were scattered across the floor, filling a classroom that should have been used for student learning. Desks and chairs were buried under dust and debris. It is understood that the school has been in a collapsed state for two years, forcing students to relocate for their teaching and learning activities.
