Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Forms Investigation Team for School Building Construction

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has set up an investigation and inventory team to check the construction of school buildings across Jakarta. The move follows the discovery of problems in a number of school buildings.

“I have asked for an investigation team, which was formed yesterday, and at the same time an inventory team for the future construction of the existing buildings,” said Pramono after inspecting SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09 in South Jakarta on Friday (24/7/2026).

Pramono said that previously school construction was entirely under the Education Office. Going forward, the Public Works, Spatial Planning and Land Office (Citata) and the Road Management Office (Bina Marga) will also help supervise the construction process.

“Because in the past, construction like this was all under the Education Office. Now we are bringing in other agencies to supervise, because not everyone at the Education Office has the expertise for building work and so on. There will be companions from Citata and Bina Marga,” he explained.

He said the investigation team will examine the problems found in existing school buildings, including identifying the causes so that similar incidents are not repeated.

“The investigation and inventory team is there to look, just as I was easily able to see earlier. It is clear that the actual problem was that the framework was not properly prepared at the time, back in 2011,” he said.

“And that is what I have asked must not be repeated. Therefore there must be supervision for this. And I want the supervisors not to come from the Education Office. The Education Office is the user, after all. The supervisors should naturally come from the other relevant agencies,” he concluded.

SDN in Kebayoran Lama Collapsed

As previously reported, the building of State Primary School SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09 in South Jakarta collapsed two years ago. Pupils have been forced to study at another school because their own school building has not yet been repaired.

Evi (33), the parent of a fifth-grade pupil, said the children are now studying at SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 11, located next door to their collapsed school.

The collapse occurred during the regional election holiday on 27 November 2024. Five rooms were destroyed, comprising four classrooms and one school health unit (UKS).

“It happened during the regional election holiday. So nobody knew about it, not even the school caretaker,” said Evi.
