Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has instructed the Transportation Agency to take firm action against a truck driver who was allegedly using a mobile phone before crashing into a pedestrian crossing bridge (JPO) in Matraman, East Jakarta.

“As for what happened yesterday at one of the JPOs, because the driver was playing with his phone, I have already asked the Transportation Agency to coordinate with the Traffic Corps so that whoever did it is punished as severely as possible,” said Pramono at City Hall on Thursday.

Pramono stressed that if necessary, he has asked for the driver’s licence or permit to be revoked so as to create a deterrent effect.

He does not want Jakarta disrupted by similar incidents.

“If the company also continues to do the same thing, then it is the company that will receive a warning for failing to prepare disciplined drivers and so on,” said Pramono.

Previously, it was reported that a concrete mixer truck became stuck under a bridge integrated with a railway crossing on Jalan Matraman Raya, East Jakarta, on Thursday (16/7).

The incident was allegedly caused by the truck driver using his mobile phone whilst driving.
