Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has instructed the Transportation Department to take firm action against a truck driver who allegedly crashed into a pedestrian bridge (JPO) in Matraman, East Jakarta, while using a mobile phone. “Regarding yesterday’s incident at one of the JPOs because the driver was using a mobile phone, I have asked the Transportation Department and coordinated with the Traffic Corps to take the strictest possible action against anyone who does this,” Pramono said at City Hall on Thursday. Pramono stressed that if necessary, he would request the driver’s licence be revoked to create a deterrent effect. He stated that he does not want Jakarta to be disrupted by similar incidents. “If the company also repeats the same thing, then the company will receive a warning for not preparing orderly drivers and so on,” Pramono said. It was previously reported that a concrete mixer truck became stuck under a bridge integrated with a railway crossing on Jalan Matraman Raya, East Jakarta, on Thursday. The incident was suspected to have occurred because the driver was using a mobile phone while driving.
