Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has requested that the DKI Jakarta Health Department take action against healthcare workers who mocked a BPJS Kesehatan patient who later passed away. Pramono stated that he had been following the case that went viral on the social media platform Threads and expressed regret over the negative comments directed at the patient, who had complained after waiting approximately eight hours for a hospital room.

“I have seen it and I will ask the Health Department to issue a warning to anyone who mocks BPJS Kesehatan patients. BPJS Kesehatan is protected by law,” Pramono said at City Hall in Central Jakarta on Thursday.

He stressed that the Jakarta provincial government is highly focused on health and education services. Therefore, he wants every healthcare worker in Jakarta to show empathy towards patients, including those who voice complaints about services.

“I will immediately ask the Head of the Health Department and the Head of the Regional Civil Service Agency to study this and take action against anyone who engaged in such behaviour,” Pramono added.

The case drew public attention after Yurizal Tri Chaerawan died on 31 July 2026. Days earlier, he had posted a complaint on his Threads account about waiting eight hours without receiving a hospital room. Instead of receiving support, his complaint was met with criticism from several social media accounts, some of which were later identified as belonging to healthcare workers. The comments from these health workers were widely condemned by the public as lacking empathy, especially following the patient’s death roughly a week after his initial post.
