Jakarta Governor Moves to Limit Padel Court Hours in Residential Areas
“We will regulate the operating hours of padel courts in densely populated areas,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall, emphasizing that the sport must be enjoyed responsibly with consideration for neighbors.
Pramono cited complaints from residents, including families with infants, whose sleep was disturbed by late-night padel games, calling the situation unfair to the community.
He said a meeting would be held Tuesday (Feb. 24) to discuss citywide regulations for padel operations, inviting stakeholders to address licensing and noise concerns.
Previously, complaints had prompted discussions on licensing and the placement of courts near residential areas, with residents reporting disturbances affecting their daily lives.
One padel court owner in the Haji Nawi Raya area, Cilandak, South Jakarta, agreed to limit hours and add soundproofing after receiving noise complaints from neighbors.
“We will upgrade our walls so noise from the padel court is contained, avoiding public disturbance,” said Fajar Ediputra, representative of PT Kreasi Arena Indonesia, operator of Fourthwall Padel.
During soundproofing installation, operations were halved during Ramadan, with court hours limited from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to minimize disruption.
Fajar noted that all permits comply with regulations, but noise issues persist due to the court’s proximity to residential zoning, resulting in decibel levels around 70.
He said the soundproofing project would be completed within 35 days to resolve the complaints and ensure comfort for both residents and players.
Residents had reported the noise to authorities since November 2025, urging management to either install soundproofing or cease operations to reduce disturbances in the neighborhood.
