Jakarta Governor: JAKIM a new driving force for the capital's tourism sector

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung believes the staging of the BTN Jakarta International Marathon (JAKIM) 2026 serves as a new driving force for the tourism sector and economy in Jakarta. The international-scale running event, which was joined by tens of thousands of participants, has successfully strengthened Jakarta’s position as a premier sport tourism destination on the global stage. According to him, a major event like JAKIM not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but also brings a significant multiplier effect to the city’s economy. “Large-scale activities are considered capable of mobilising the transportation, hospitality, culinary, creative economy, and micro and small business sectors around the event locations,” said Pramono after flagging off and participating in the 10K category of JAKIM 2026 at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium complex in Central Jakarta on Saturday. Pramono asserted that Jakarta’s consistency in delivering well-prepared and safe international sporting events is the main key to enhancing the city’s competitiveness on a global level. The success of security and route sterilisation during JAKIM 2026 proves that Jakarta’s infrastructure is ready to stand alongside other major world cities. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is committed to further strengthening the organisation of similar events in the future to attract more international and domestic tourists. “I am convinced that the more events like this are held, the stronger Jakarta’s position will be as a world sport tourism destination that can attract tourists, drive the economy, and introduce the face of Jakarta as an inclusive, competitive, and globally competitive city,” concluded Pramono. Overall, BTN JAKIM 2026 was joined by a total of 45,500 runners, including 1,012 international runners from 52 countries, with the largest participation coming from Malaysia, Singapore, and South Korea. On the first day, 5,500 participants competed in the 5K category and 15,000 in the 10K category. In the Men’s National 5K category, first place was won by Pandu Sukarya, followed by Yad Hapizudin and Marselino Varelian Fallo. In the Women’s 5K category, the podium was occupied by Marhaendrassiwi, Azizah Khusnul Qotimah, and Alicia Chantiqa. Meanwhile, in the Men’s 10K category, the top three positions were secured by Rikki Marthin, Immanuel, and Arif Hidayatullah, while the Women’s 10K category was won by Agustina Mardika, followed by Irma Handayani and Farah Aurellia. Entering the second day on Sunday (14/6), JAKIM 2026 will hold the main categories, namely the Half Marathon with 16,400 runners and the Marathon with 8,600 runners. Participants are scheduled to pass through a number of capital city icons, with the starting point at the National Monument (Monas) area and the finish line at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK).
