Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has instructed his administration to coordinate with law enforcement and community leaders to maintain security in the Matraman area of East Jakarta. Speaking at City Hall on Monday, Pramono said he had directed the Jakarta provincial government to work with law enforcement, community figures, religious leaders, and youth leaders to ensure the situation remains conducive and peaceful. The governor expressed deep concern over the incident in Matraman and stated that the Jakarta government fully trusts law enforcement to resolve the matter properly and conduct an investigation in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations. Pramono also appealed to the public to remain calm and refrain from provocative actions that could escalate the conflict. He urged people not to spread unverified information or disinformation and to avoid damaging public facilities. The clash occurred on Jalan Tambak, Pegangsaan, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Sunday around 10 a.m. local time. According to preliminary police investigations, the incident began when two individuals on a motorcycle revved their engine loudly in front of a nasi uduk vendor near the Matraman Jami Mosque. After being reprimanded for the noise, they left but later returned with about five others, allegedly damaging the vendor’s cart and assaulting residents. This sparked resistance from locals, and the clash spread to the Jalan Tambak area, where both sides threw stones and other objects, resulting in buildings and several vehicles being set on fire. Police arrived to disperse the crowd, evacuate victims, and secure several individuals for questioning. Two people were taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital; one, identified as K, 23, died after treatment, while the other remains in critical condition.
