The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, inspected the construction of the Integrated Utility Network (SJUT) in the Tebet area, South Jakarta, on Thursday (10/9). This inspection is part of the Jakarta Provincial Government’s efforts to make urban spaces neater, safer, and more comfortable for residents.

He aims to have all overhead cables in Jakarta moved underground within the next five years. The restructuring will be carried out gradually under the legal framework of Regional Regulation Number 8 of 2025.

“In accordance with Regional Regulation Number 8 of 2025, we have a strong legal umbrella to organise utility cables from above the surface to underground. I target that within the next five years, all overhead cables in Jakarta can be fully lowered to significantly transform the face of the capital,” he stated in a written release on Thursday (1le/9).

Pramono mentioned that the Jakarta Provincial Government is opening opportunities for collaboration with regional-owned enterprises and the private sector to accelerate this restructuring.

Acceleration will be achieved through the ‘5M’ programme, which includes: utilising SJUT, independent relocation, binding overhead cables, cutting non-functional cables, and raising sagging cables.

“Because the business scheme is promising and the legal framework is complete, we are opening as much space as possible for the private sector so that this acceleration becomes a collective movement for the comfort of all citizens,” he said.

On the ground, the Jakarta Highways Agency (Dinas Bina Marga) noted that the constructed SJUT network has reached 41.7 kilometres. Several priority sections, including Jalan Dr. Supomo, are targeted for completion by December 2026.

The Head of the Jakarta Highways Agency, Heru Suwondo, stated that the SJUT construction is being carried out while considering the traffic conditions around the work sites. Traffic engineering and socialisation to road users are being continuously conducted alongside the Transport Agency.

The Jakarta Provincial Government is also inviting utility owners to participate in this restructuring. In areas not yet reached by SJUT, utility owners are encouraged to undertake independent relocation to ensure the process is faster and more comprehensive.

Efforts are also directed towards the electricity network owned by PT PLN (Persero). The state-owned company is currently preparing designs and testing low-voltage distribution boxes before low-voltage underground cable systems (SKTR) are implemented more widely.

Senior Manager of Construction at PT PLN (Persero) Jakarta Distribution Main Unit, M Eryan Saputra, said the testing phase is necessary to ensure the new system meets safety and service reliability standards.

“We provide our full support for this urban restructuring programme. Currently, PLN is preparing designs and testing low-voltage distribution boxes before the SKTR is deployed extensively,” he concluded.
