Jakarta Governor Demands Strict Action Against Truck Driver Playing Mobile Phone Before Hitting Matraman Footbridge
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has instructed the Transportation Agency to take firm action against a truck driver who allegedly crashed into the Matraman pedestrian bridge (JPO) in East Jakarta while using a mobile phone. “The incident occurred because the driver was playing with his mobile phone. I have asked the Transportation Agency and coordinated with the Traffic Corps to take the strictest possible action against anyone who does this,” Pramono said in Jakarta on Friday. Pramono even requested that the driver’s licence be revoked if necessary to create a deterrent effect. “If the company repeats the same offence, then the company will receive a warning for failing to prepare orderly drivers,” he added. A concrete mixer truck became stuck under the bridge, which is integrated with a railway crossing, on Jalan Matraman Raya, East Jakarta, on Thursday. The driver is suspected of using a mobile phone at the time of the incident.
