Jakarta Governor demands bus operators face sanctions over Transjakarta Corridor 13 crash
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has demanded that PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) also impose sanctions on bus operators in connection with the bus accident on Corridor 13 heading towards Cipulir, South Jakarta, on Monday (23/2).
Pram, as he is commonly known, argued that operators must share responsibility as they have an obligation to provide guidance and training to drivers.
“We have instructed Transjakarta that the operators must also be sanctioned and reprimanded. It is not only the driver who should face sanctions, because the operator responsible for training must also be held accountable,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday.
He previously stated that the accident involving Transjakarta buses operated by BMP 263 and MYS 17100 on Corridor 13 (Puri Beta-Petukangan) along the Swadarma stretch heading towards Cipulir, South Jakarta, on Monday, was caused by human error.
Furthermore, he noted that the driver of bus BMP 220263 had been working for two consecutive days.
The driver then fell asleep and was reportedly unable to control the steering, causing the bus to veer into the opposing lane and collide with bus BMYS 17100.
Of the 23 victims in total, Pramono detailed that two were taken to Bakti Asih Hospital and 21 to Sari Asih Hospital.
“And everyone should know that all victims’ costs are being fully covered by Transjakarta,” Pramono said.
Separately, Transjakarta’s Head of Public Relations and CSR, Ayu Wardhani, said the accident caused significant damage to the bus and a number of passengers sustained minor injuries.
“Officers carried out a rapid evacuation to the nearest stop, and passengers with minor injuries have received treatment,” Ayu said.
Meanwhile, Corridor 13 buses covering routes 13B (CBD Ciledug-Tegal Mampang) and L13E (Puri Beta-Pancoran) experienced delays due to traffic congestion at Puri Beta 2 and the area beneath the JORR overpass.
