Jakarta Governor Defends Security Guard Who Prostrated After Viral Alphard Clash

JAKARTA – Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said he has been monitoring the incident between a security guard and a Toyota Alphard driver in the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout area, which went viral on social media. In his assessment, the guard’s actions were appropriate.

Pramono said he had reviewed several CCTV recordings to obtain a clear picture of the chronology of events on Wednesday afternoon (22/7/2026).

After learning the sequence of events that led the guard to strike the Alphard, which had jumped the lights at a pelican crossing, he judged that the guard should not be sanctioned with dismissal.

“Firstly, regarding the security guard’s fate, I will request that he is not sacked or dismissed. In fact, the person concerned was actually carrying out his duties very well,” he said at Jakarta City Hall on Friday (24/7/2026).

According to the PDIP politician, the Alphard driver was the party that first committed the traffic violation. As a result, the guard, who was about to cross at the pelican crossing, struck the car’s window in frustration.

“It can be seen that it was the Alphard that committed the violation,” he said.

Pramono also said he had received information that the number plates used by the Alphard were fake. For that reason, he believes it is the driver who ought to be sanctioned.
