Jakarta Governor Defends Security Guard Who Prostrated After Viral Alphard Clash

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has stated he is personally monitoring the viral incident between a security guard and a Toyota Alphard driver at the Hotel Indonesia roundabout, asserting that the guard’s actions were justified. Pramono revealed he had reviewed several CCTV recordings to obtain a clear picture of the chronology of the event that occurred on Wednesday afternoon. After learning the cause of the guard striking the car, which had run a red light at a pelican crossing, he assessed that the guard should not face dismissal. ‘Firstly, regarding the fate of the security guard, I will request that he not be fired or dismissed. In fact, the person concerned actually carried out his duties very well,’ he said at Jakarta City Hall on Friday. The PDIP politician stated that the Alphard driver was the first to commit a traffic violation. Consequently, the security guard, who was trying to cross at the pelican crossing, struck the car window out of frustration. ‘It was clear that the Alphard was the one that violated the rules,’ he said. Pramono also claimed to have received information that the licence plate used by the Alphard was fake. Therefore, he believes it is the driver who deserves to be sanctioned.
