Jakarta Governor Confirms Rasuna Said Car-Free Day to Begin on June 1st, 2026
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, has confirmed that the implementation of the Car-Free Day (CFD) in the Rasuna Said area, South Jakarta, will begin effectively on June 1st, 2026.
The policy will be implemented after all supporting facilities in the area have been completed by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.
“Regarding the Car-Free Day, specifically in Sudirman-Thamrin and Rasuna Said, we will start it effectively on June 1st,” said Pramono after inaugurating the Tian Fu Gong temple area in PIK, North Jakarta, Sunday.
Specifically for the Rasuna Said area, he said that the DKI Provincial Government is still completing a number of supporting facilities so that people can enjoy the area comfortably and safely during the implementation of the CFD.
According to him, currently the work on pedestrian facilities, landscaping, and tree planting is still ongoing. The DKI Provincial Government wants to ensure that all supporting facilities are truly ready before the area is opened for CFD activities.
“Specifically for the Car-Free Day in Rasuna Said, why June 1st? Because hopefully all facilities will be completed by then, including pedestrian areas and tree planting,” explained Pramono.
He also revealed that there would be differences in operating hours between the Sudirman-Thamrin and Rasuna Said areas.
The time restriction is carried out by considering community activities around the Rasuna Said area, especially the presence of several places of worship that begin to be used in the morning.
“Rasuna Said starts from 5:30 AM to 9:00 AM because there will be several places of worship that start at 10:00 AM,” said Pramono.
The policy of expanding the CFD to the Rasuna Said area is part of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s efforts to create a healthier and more pedestrian-friendly public space, while also encouraging people to reduce their use of motor vehicles on weekends.
In addition to being a place for sports and recreation, the presence of the CFD is also expected to improve the air quality in the capital city and support the arrangement of urban areas that are greener and more comfortable.
The DKI Provincial Government targets that the arrangement of pedestrian paths and greening in the Rasuna Said area can provide a new look for one of Jakarta’s main business centers.
The area is expected to not only be a center for office activities, but also a more humane public interaction space for residents of the capital city.
