Jakarta Government's Labour-Intensive Job Scheme Draws Over 100,000 Applicants
The Jakarta Provincial Government has opened labour-intensive job vacancies as an economic cushion for capital residents, with at least 2,843 quotas available in the programme. Head of the Jakarta Communication, Informatics, and Statistics Agency, Marulina Dewi, stated that 37 types of jobs have been opened in the first phase of the programme since several days ago. However, more than 100,000 people have already applied.
“So for the labour-intensive scheme, 37 job vacancies have been opened and as of today there are indeed 100,000 applicants,” she said in the Monas area on Sunday (21/6/2026). According to her, registration for the first phase will be conducted until 26 June 2026. The Jakarta Provincial Government will later announce the successful candidates on 27 June 2026.
Nevertheless, the government will reopen the registration process for the second phase of the labour-intensive programme. The second phase registration will commence on 27 June 2026. “We will close on 25 June for the first session and announce on the 27th. And on 27 June, there will also be a second session,” said Marulina.
Meanwhile, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung confirmed that 2,843 people will be recruited in the labour-intensive programme. He assured that the recruitment process will be carried out transparently. “Concerns about ‘insiders’ playing games, I have conveyed to Mrs Dewi, must not happen. Transparent, open, because this is guarded and awaited by the people of Jakarta,” he said.
He stated that the Jakarta Provincial Government deliberately created the programme because there are still quite many Jakarta residents who do not have jobs amidst difficult economic conditions. “Why is this being done? To create a social cushion. Because the pressure of the world economy is now increasingly severe,” he said.
According to information gathered by Republika, the job vacancies provided are in the labour-intensive sector across several regional apparatus organisations of the Jakarta Provincial Government, such as the Bina Marga Agency, the Parks and Urban Forest Agency, the Water Resources Agency, and the Environmental Agency. The labour-intensive sectors in question include maintenance, arrangement, and upkeep of the urban environment.
Residents who participate in the programme will be given a salary equivalent to the Jakarta provincial minimum wage. They will be employed for a period of 3-6 months. The requirements to apply for the jobs are possessing a Jakarta ID card, falling within decile 1-5, being of productive age (18-59 years), not yet having a job at the time of registration, and being physically and mentally healthy. The programme will be implemented throughout 2026 with recruitment opened in stages. Participants will work through third parties (implementers) in each activity. However, the jobs are not part of a scheme for appointing Jakarta Provincial Government employees or PJLP.
