Jakarta (ANTARA) - Special Staff to the Governor and Deputy Governor of Jakarta for Public Communication, Chico Hakim, stated that the Jakarta Provincial Government views the momentum leading to the city’s five-century milestone as a collective spirit to strengthen urban development, so as not to depend solely on budget availability.

This is particularly relevant as the provincial government experienced a cut in revenue-sharing funds (DBH) amounting to Rp15 trillion from the central government. Moreover, Deputy Speaker of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), Basri Baco, reminded the executive to prepare for the possibility of further DBH cuts.

“Amid these challenges, our spirit grows even stronger. The momentum towards Jakarta’s five centuries is not just about the budget, but about collaboration among all parties, namely the provincial government, the DPRD, the private sector, and the community, to build a global city that sides with its citizens,” Chico said via text message on Tuesday.

He stated that infrastructure development, quality of life improvements, and public services must continue despite the current economic conditions. To that end, the provincial government is continuously coordinating with the central government to minimise future DBH cuts.

“While ensuring Jakarta remains resilient and continues to advance,” Chico added.

Governor Pramono Anung said on Monday (22/6) that the administration will hold various activities to make Jakarta a global city that is beloved, comfortable, and safe.

He mentioned several initiatives to welcome Jakarta’s five centuries, including starting the construction of a pedestrian deck in Dukuh Atas. The provincial government is also currently renovating Taman Semanggi, with Pramono expressing hope that the park’s revitalisation can be completed soon.

Furthermore, he said the provincial government will connect the Bundaran HI area via an underground passage to several hotels, namely Grand Hyatt, Pullman, Mandarin, and Kempinski. These hotels will eventually be linked and provide direct access to the local MRT station.

“We will continue to implement such measures. However, the most important thing in the context of this five-century milestone is that Jakarta is preparing itself to provide comfort for its citizens,” Pramono stated.

Pramono also emphasised that together with Deputy Governor Rano Karno, he is not solely focused on the physical development of Jakarta, but also on comfort, security, social care, and mutual cooperation through the ‘Jaga Jakarta’ programme and continuous waste sorting initiatives.
