Jakarta Government Trials 'Open Dining' Culinary Bus Tour

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has begun trialling an ‘open dining of Jakarta’ service, a culinary tourism concept aboard a bus combined with city panoramas, as an effort to strengthen the capital’s tourist appeal.

“We hope the public can enjoy Jakarta from a different perspective, not only seeing the city, but also getting to know its history, culture and identity,” said DKI Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno in Jakarta on Thursday.

The service is planned to open to the public from 1 August 2026. Bookings can be made from 25 July 2026 via the TJ: Transjakarta application.

The trial coincided with the launch of a city sightseeing tour service using open-top double-decker buses on the Jakarta Batavia route (Sarinah-Kota Tua).

This innovation forms part of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s efforts to strengthen the tourism sector, revitalise historic districts, and drive creative economic growth towards Jakarta’s vision as a cultured global city.

“Through the Open Top Tour, residents and tourists can enjoy Jakarta’s modern side, history, culture and development in a single service that supports the vision of Jakarta as a cultured global city,” said Rano.

Meanwhile, President Director of PT Transjakarta, Welfizon Yuza, said the open dining of Jakarta service will operate two to three times daily with a capacity of 30 passengers per journey.

The service can be enjoyed individually or for group activities and special events, at a fare of Rp500,000 per person.

The fare includes a complete dining package, ranging from appetisers and main courses to desserts.

“During the journey, passengers will also enjoy a live violin music performance as well as narration about the history of the areas passed and the stories behind the dishes served,” said Welfizon.

He noted that every journey on the previously operating open-top tour route has always been fully booked.
