Jakarta Government Trials 'Open Dining' Culinary Bus Tour

The Jakarta provincial government has commenced trials for the ‘Open Dining of Jakarta’ service, a culinary tourism concept aboard a bus combined with panoramic city views, as part of efforts to strengthen the capital’s tourism appeal. ‘We hope the public can enjoy Jakarta from a different perspective, not just seeing the city, but also getting to know its history, culture, and identity,’ said Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Rano Karno, on Thursday. The service is planned to open to the public on 1 August 2026, with bookings available from 25 July 2026 via the TJ: Transjakarta application. The trial coincided with the inauguration of a city sightseeing service using an open-top double-decker bus on the Jakarta Batavia route (Sarinah-Kota Tua). This innovation is part of the Jakarta provincial government’s efforts to strengthen the tourism sector, revitalise historic areas, and encourage creative economic growth towards Jakarta becoming a cultured global city. ‘Through the Open Top Tour, the public and tourists can enjoy the modern, historical, and cultural sides, as well as the development of Jakarta, in one service that supports Jakarta’s vision as a cultured global city,’ said Rano. Meanwhile, President Director of PT Transjakarta, Welfizon Yuza, stated that the open dining service will operate two to three times daily with a capacity of 30 passengers per trip. The service can be enjoyed individually or for group activities and special events at a rate of Rp500,000 per person. The fare includes a complete meal package from appetisers and main courses to desserts. ‘During the journey, passengers will also enjoy live violin music performances along with narration about the history of the area and the stories behind the menu served,’ said Welfizon. He noted that all trips on the previously operated open-top tour route have been fully booked.
