Jakarta Government Still Discussing Transjabodetabek Fare Adjustment with DPRD
The Jakarta Provincial Government is still discussing plans for Transjabodetical fare adjustments with the Jakarta DPRD.
“At this moment, discussions with the DPRD are ongoing; once finalised with the DPRD, we will make an announcement,” said the Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung Wibowo, at Jakarta City Hall on Monday.
Previously, Pramono had promised to give serious consideration to the Transjabodetabek fare adjustments to ensure that residents are not driven back to using private transport. He is committed to making Jakarta a comfortable city for its citizens, and as such, he will carefully deliberate before deciding on the new Transjabodetabek fare amounts.
Despite any potential fare adjustments, Pramono stated that his administration will continue to increase the fleet size to improve service quality and maintain passenger comfort.
Meanwhile, the President Director of PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta), Welfizon Yuza, stated that the process of determining Transjabodetabek fares is still under discussion. “It is still being discussed. The Governor will be the one to announce it,” Welfizon said at the Jakarta DPRD Building on Monday (15/6).
According to Welfizon, a decision cannot be made hastily as the impact on the public must be considered. He noted that the fare determination process requires thorough study because it involves many aspects, ranging from regional financial conditions to the public’s ability to pay.
“There are many things to consider. There is fiscal impact, service quality, social conditions, ability to pay, and willingness to pay,” Welfizon explained.
In addition to the fare amount, Transjakarta is also still studying the fare mechanism that will be implemented. Welfizon could not yet confirm whether Transjabodetabek fares will follow a distance-based system, similar to the MRT, or continue to use a flat fare structure.
