Jakarta Government Seeks Solution for Cilincing Illegal Dumpsite Economy
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is preparing a solution to address the social and economic problems that have emerged around an illegal waste disposal site (TPS) in Cilincing, North Jakarta. This is because activities at the location have become a source of livelihood for residents.
Head of the DKI Jakarta Communication, Informatics, and Statistics Agency (Diskominfotik), Marulina Dewi, stated that the provincial government will continue to take action against violations of waste management regulations. However, the government is not ignoring the economic issues that have arisen in the area.
“Indeed, the economic issue, the circular economy that has been born there, is our homework. We will find a solution so that the community there can still maintain their circular economy,” Marulina said at Jakarta City Hall on Friday (14/8/2026).
Marulina explained that the DKI Provincial Government has formed a team to discuss the problems in Cilincing. The team will seek the right solution so that the handling of the problem is not solely focused on enforcement.
“In terms of staging, specifically, the DKI Provincial Government team is currently conducting discussions. So that it is truly on target, so that it truly has an impact when we deliver this solution,” she said.
On the other hand, Marulina emphasised that the DKI Provincial Government remains consistent in enforcing regulations related to waste management. Action against parties who violate the rules will continue to be taken.
According to her, the problem in Cilincing has two sides that must be resolved simultaneously, namely the legal aspect and the socio-economic issues of the community.
“The focus on legal compliance for those who violate waste regulations will still be carried out. But the social and economic issues that have arisen there will be our homework,” she explained.
Marulina said the issue has been reported to the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung. The DKI Provincial Government is now preparing follow-up steps to find a solution for the community members who have been relying on income from waste-based economic activities.
In addition to Cilincing, the DKI Provincial Government has also begun collecting data on illegal TPS in the Jakarta area. The data collection is being carried out together with the DKI Environmental Agency (DLH).
“It is currently underway with the Environmental Agency. Together with the Environmental Agency, we are conducting the data collection,” said Marulina.
She added that officers at the sub-district level are also involved in the process. Marulina stressed that the existence of illegal TPS is a concern for the DKI Provincial Government.
“Certainly, certainly. That is the direction from the Governor, regarding illegal TPS,” she said.
