Jakarta Government Rolls Out Subsidised Food Programme to Curb Inflation
The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta is committed to providing quality food at affordable prices through the Subsidised Food Programme as one of the efforts to control inflation. Head of the Food and Regional Economy Group at the DKI Jakarta Regional Secretariat’s Bureau of Economy and Finance, Abdul Ghofar Alhakim, said the food provided includes chicken, rice, beef, milk, fish, and eggs. “For example, certain communities only pay Rp8,000 per chicken. That is very affordable, to ensure those families can still consume healthy and nutritious food,” he said during a podcast themed “In This Economy, Jakarta Continues to Grow Amidst Global Challenges” on Thursday. In 2026, the Subsidised Food Programme in Jakarta is distributed through 107 main service points spread across five administrative city areas, and includes outlets belonging to Perumda Dharma Jaya, Pasar Jaya, and Food Station. Furthermore, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is also synergising with other regions to strengthen food security and maintain price stability for Jakarta’s citizens. “Our daily rice requirement can reach 2,400 tonnes, while we have no land to grow it. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government together with Regionally-Owned Enterprises is strengthening inter-regional cooperation with producing areas,” said Ghofar. “We also have other areas. There are nine provinces for various commodities, not just rice, but also meat, onions, chillies, and others,” he revealed. Meanwhile, the DKI Jakarta Central Statistics Agency recorded that Jakarta’s monthly inflation was 0.12 per cent in May 2026. Annually, Jakarta’s inflation reached 2.49 per cent, which is 0.42 percentage points higher than the annual inflation rate in the same month of 2025.
