Jakarta government regrets damage to CCTV cameras during protest

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Head of the Communication, Informatics, and Statistics Agency (Diskominfotik) of Jakarta, Marulina Dewi, has expressed regret over the damage to several closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the capital during a protest on Thursday.

“We deeply regret the damage to several CCTV cameras, including in Penjompongan, by irresponsible parties,” said Marulina in Jakarta on Thursday.

According to her, CCTV facilities are used to help prevent crime, monitor public services, and support traffic management.

The Jakarta Provincial Government is open to public aspirations and respects the right of every citizen to express their opinions in public spaces. However, the expression of aspirations must still be carried out in an orderly, safe, and responsible manner.

“We urge that the expression of opinions be conducted in an orderly manner, without anarchic actions or vandalism. Any act of damage to public facilities will be reported to law enforcement authorities for follow-up in accordance with applicable regulations. Do not let the expression of aspirations instead damage facilities built for the benefit of the public themselves,” she explained.

She added that Jakarta is a shared home, so the public is urged to maintain public facilities and look after one another so that community activities can continue to take place safely.
