Jakarta Government Provides Comprehensive Recovery Support for Trafficking Victims

The Technical Implementation Unit of the Centre for the Protection of Women and Children (UPT PPA), together with the DKI Jakarta Social Services, is providing comprehensive assistance and protection to child victims of the criminal act of human trafficking (TPPO).

“In this case, we are taking a role in handling where we have provided protection to the victims, starting from the initial assessment, the police examination process, medical examination and visum accompaniment, legal assistance, to case monitoring,” said Head of the DKI Jakarta Women and Children Protection Centre, Rahayu Sri Rahmawati, during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Rahayu explained that based on initial medical examinations, the victims were indicated to have health problems in the form of sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

“The UPT PPA DKI Jakarta affirms its commitment to prioritising the perspective and recovery of victims, especially for victims who are still children, for the sustainability of their future,” she said.

Rahayu also mentioned that her party has prepared a Follow-Up Plan (RTL) which includes accompaniment during the ongoing legal process, referral to a safe house owned by the DKI Jakarta Social Services, and the submission of applications for protection and restitution to the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK).

“This step is synergised with relevant agencies for the sustainable fulfilment of the victims’ rights,” she explained.

On the same occasion, Acting Head of the Social Rehabilitation Division of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Social Services, Bernard Tambunan, stated his team’s readiness to assist in handling victims through social worker services and psychosocial support for both the victims and their families.

“We have prepared a safe house for the victims as well as social rehabilitation through placement in a social institution. There, they will be given various skills and training. If there are victims who come from outside Jakarta, we are also ready to help facilitate their repatriation to their home regions,” he said.
