The Jakarta Provincial Government is prioritising student safety and ensuring optimal educational services for pupils of SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09. The reconstruction of the school building has been included as a budget priority for 2027. This measure was taken after part of the school’s roof frame collapsed in November 2024. A technical recommendation from the local Cipta Karya, Spatial Planning, and Land Agency stated that the building is severely damaged and unfit for use.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung affirmed that his administration will promptly resolve the issues faced by the school. He stated that he has received reports from relevant officials. “I have received reports from the relevant officials. Of course, I am giving special attention so that it is handled immediately. I guarantee we will resolve it soon,” he said in a written statement on Tuesday (21/7).

To prevent potential hazards, the building was immediately vacated on 27 November 2024. Safety barriers have also been installed around the area to ensure the safety of all school community members. Consequently, 270 students were relocated to SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 11, which is located right next to the old building. The learning process now operates on a double-shift system to ensure teaching and learning activities are not disrupted.

Head of the Jakarta Education Agency, Nahdiana, stated that student safety and the continuity of learning are the main concerns. She emphasised that students’ right to education must not be compromised despite the shift system. “Student safety is our priority. At the same time, we ensure that all students continue to receive their right to education optimally. The quality of educational services is maintained,” she said. She stressed that the adjustment in learning hours does not lower the quality of education, as the curriculum, teaching process, and support from teachers and educational staff continue to meet applicable standards.

Nahdiana added that ongoing support is provided to ensure teaching and learning activities remain effective during this transition period. She insisted that no child should lose their right to quality education. From a technical planning perspective, the reconstruction of SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09 has been in the planning stage since 2025, marked by the preparation of the Detail Engineering Design (DED) as the technical basis for the new building. Nahdiana said the planning process will continue so that construction can be realised soon, allowing students to return to a safe building that meets educational facility standards. She confirmed that the school’s reconstruction remains a priority for the Jakarta Provincial Government and will be proposed again in the 2027 fiscal year budget.

Meanwhile, Head of the Jakarta Communication, Informatics, and Statistics Agency, Marulina Dewi, affirmed the provincial government’s commitment to maintaining transparency. She assured that public services continue to run well during the preparation process for the construction. “During the construction preparation process, we ensure that children can continue to learn well and safely. We also appreciate the public’s attention and input,” she said. She added that public concern is an important part of the provincial government’s efforts to continuously evaluate public services, and that community input encourages improvements in service quality going forward. The Jakarta Provincial Government guarantees that the reconstruction process of SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09 will be overseen according to the established stages, and that all students will receive safe and quality educational services until the school construction is completed.
